Recommendations for C/C++

a big hello arduino community. couple of q's i'm sure can with:

1) arduino software c or c++ or hybrid c/c++ ?

2) comprehensive book on whichever c language used in arduino me learn code arduino properly. suggest best book ... ? (e.g. perhaps "c dummies"  would start, comprehensive enough ?)

it's c++, without "new" or "delete".
any book on embedded c/c++, i've yet come across one.
