advmame blurry/fuzzy? - Raspberry Pi Forums
i'm running advmame console (outside of x) , looks little blurry or fuzzy.
when take @ in x windows, it's nice , crisp - it's slow.
i'd stick console because of speed , because hacked menu based on pygame menu system. using hmdi output.
ideas on how advmame sharp outside of x?

first things first, check video clock setting hdmi ouput -
device_video_clock 5 - 50 / 15.62 / 50 ; 5 - 50 / 15.73 / 60
secondly, comparing same game in advmame when making comparison? think it’s due advmame.rc settings of - advmame.rc, display_color, advmame.rc, display_mode , display_resizeeffect
instance, due default settings donkey kong/galaxian displayed sharply, whereas, ghouls n' ghosts/rainbow islands looks “fuzzy” due filters/display modes being applied it! indication can gleaned rom/game, rom legal warning/information screens if filters being applied (the latter of indicate "display mode" game running in), these look, say, "fuzzy" .
did miss additional helpful advice though in original guide (it buried in thread!) -
[mame settings infinitely customisable. have found “default” settings read advmame.rc acceptable in cases there few exceptions -
1. “default” advmame.rc, display_color “auto”. vector games - asteroids, star wars, etc suffer incorrect application. don’t change advmame.rc! in options menu (tab) navigate video, color , change “auto” “bgr16” “save game”
2. “default” advmame.rc, display_mode “auto” , display_magnify “1”. affect games suffer incorrect application in aspect ratio (i’ve found hyper sports, i-robot , track , field far). again, dont change advmame.rc! in options menu (tab) navigate video, magnify , change “1” “2” “save game”
3. advmame.rc setting change display_resizeeffect “auto” “none”. personally, i’m not great fan of of these in emulation , applied when change magnification mode described above. however, can scroll through them in video options menu, experiment, see if of them!
it’s not “definitive”, there never “perfect” settings (if alter parameters 1 game can have adverse affect on others)]
