as retro game fanatic have owned, imported, hacked or emulated pretty every arcade, console & computer system on years. it’s pi’s turn platform emulation obsession! in mind posting observations far -
emulation - mindful, emulators notoriously exacting animals, painstakingly coded fans of original platform , distributed free our enjoyment! not work straight out of box! also, platform emulated bears no correlation performance, i.e. atari vcs, although not powerful specification wise, processor intensive emulate due custom tia graphics/sound hardware! so, in mind here findings of best emulator solutions have discovered far, except atari++, mednafen , uae can run straight terminal added performance!
advancemame-0.106.1 - original arcade emulator! wary though, need correct revision of rom and/or sample! dependencies required: libsdl1.2-dev, use gcc-4.7 compile!
advancemess-0.102.0.1 - *bbc model b (much faster beebem), *c64, *colecovision, nintendo nes, runs *atari 400/800 , *vectrex, both slowish, playable! *bios required. dependencies required: libsdl1.2-dev, use gcc-4.7 compile!
atari++ 1.60 - fantastic, atari 400/800 emulator, shame not run fullsceen!
fbzx 2.10.0 - find more elegant solution zx spectrum emulator fuse!
gngeo-0.7 - neo-geo aes/mvs, faster advancemame! run option --scale=2. core based on mame code suffer need of correct rom revision! nb though unlike mame, gives displays missing rom files, reply’s “unknown or unsupported romset” making bit trickier find correct ones!
mednafen - pc engine, pc engine cd , supergrafx, can used run nintendo nes, works fine long limit resolution /boot/config.txt , don’t run more scale x 1!
pcsx rearmed-r15-14 - sony playstation emulator effortlessly works fullspeed on pi! extraordinary piece of coding! dependencies required: libbz2-dev, configure --sound-drivers=sdl
stella - atari vcs, faster advancemess! effortlessly plays pitfall 2 had addition of custom dcp in original cartridge, lot of emulators struggle particular game!
uae-0.8.29 - pretty robust commodore amiga emulator, though “glitchy”. dependencies required: libgtk2.0-dev, configure --with-alsa
