i try question second time, perhaps didn't word right first time.

complete message
unable create new x config backup file 'etc/x11/xorg.conf.backup.'

when reboot have redo x server display configuration. every time.

gilles

save xorg.conf file on location (your desktop example).
gksudo gedit /etc/x11/xorg.conf
replace contents of file contents of 1 saved. save, close, reboot , post results.
