Octal Buffer Help - Raspberry Pi Forums

i have an octal buffer/line driver think can used protect gpio pins, have no idea how. thought if tied 1~g ground, , put input 1a1, i'd same output @ 1y1, didn't happen.

out there more wisdom have know how use 1 of these?

the thing haven't mentioned whether powering 5v. hope trying use output buffer, looks 5v output only.
