USB-Serial Convert hangs the Pi !! - Raspberry Pi Forums

i have rust got pi , running download image:
2012-10-28-wheezy-raspbian.img

plugged in ftdi usb serial converter (easysync usb-comi-si-m) , saw line flash past during boot on console :

[ 6.540452] usb 1-1.2: ftdi usb serial device converter attached ttyusb0

naturaly assume has recognized usb device ok.

if try trivial :
cat .profile > /dev/ttyusb0

causes pi hang , don't see tx led flasshing either. have cycle power boot again.

no unix wiz kid go here ?

probably first step perform update various usb fixes since end of october.
rather daunting http://elinux.org/r-pi_troubleshooting has lots of useful tips
