Choosing the right image file format
this know - if it's photo, use .jpg. , if it's text, or logo small number of distinct colours, use .gif.
and never use tif or png, because they're far big.
what best plan using image contains text tho'? i've done banner in link below, thought looked ok, looking @ on old pc, , zoomed in little recreate it, surprised @ how bad looked.
i might being overly picky, , may fine @ 100% in browsers, tips on best way go appreciated.

8-bit png graphics 10-15% smaller corresponding gif
file, reflecting higher efficiency of png compression algorithm.
24-bit png images considerably larger corresponding
jpg image. - depends on png , image. png images
quite suitable use on web, however.
