Small programming environment

is there small programming environment arduino? avr gcc huge , big , things.

if program in assembler, how upload programs via de usb interface?

i made small compiler (no code generator yet...) , might tempted make code generator arduino... after have ported compiler java.

i have took in site , cant see neither assembly neither avr c, fortran?
