WiFi Startup Loop - Raspberry Pi Forums

hey there

got raspberry pi 3 days ago , i've been playing ever since. made attempt try , give raspberry wifi adapter. have rosewill rnx-n150hg high-gain adapter using debian drivers ath9k_hpc.

regularly use adapter desktop (physical ethernet line not option me) know works fine. when plug raspberry's usb port, can find , see should functioning properly. i'm investigating causing problem, im leaning towards power issue.

when first plugged in , tried out using wpa_gui program, seemed scan , worked normally, not connect router via hidden ssid open/no authentication. entire thing restarted on own.

after numerous attempts @ playing drivers , looking @ lsusb , dmesg telling me, said before im leaning towards power issue, cant tell sure. when drivers installed, , adpater plugged in during initial boot fails start , restarts entire system. time between loops becomes longer , longer each restart attempt made system. if leave it, log raspberry without restarting. if try use adapter system again restarts, , looping process begins again.

if disconnect adapter before initial boot, have no issues. seems when raspberry trying use adapter crashes, makes me think pulling power board support , therefore reboots.

else having these issues? i've checked numerous threads , went troubleshooting wiki posted while ago "http://www.elinux.org/r-pi_troubleshooting#networking"

wifi adapters use more current when start transmitting.
original pi's had polyfuses on usb ports limited current 100ma
not enough wifi adapters.
newer pi's have usb polyfuses removed, still have polyfuse on supply input.
can measure tp1 - tp2 voltage on pi , without wifi adapter. should @ least 4.85v stable operation.
other possible problems can supply , cable between supply , pi. if wires 2 thin, voltage loss on cable. power adapters can't hold 5v when become loaded.
way figure things out using self powered usb hub , connecting wifi dongle that.
