phototransistor sensibility

hello.

i'm trying use phototransistor "read" light transmitted leds. looks phototransistor not sensible enough read light i'm emitting.

i built circuit:

+5v----resistor 18kohm----+------phototransistor------gnd
                                     |
                                     |
                                 arduino

question (i'm not expert can see): how can increase sensibility? increase resistor? how much?
